‘Who’ Series 9: Sonicless Doctor, Daleks highlights of first two episodes

The episode synopses of Doctor Who’s ninth series’ first two-part story, “The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar,” have been released, and it sounds like fans are in for nothing less than an epic nostalgia-filled kickoff to Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi’s second series.

The synopses cumulatively paint an interesting tale of planet Earth and the Doctor both facing grave danger in the forms of “a mysterious alien force” and a “terrifying Dalek City,” with little more than their courage to help them survive.

The Magician’s Apprentice

“Where is the Doctor? When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible…”

The Witch’s Familiar

“Trapped and alone in a terrifying Dalek city, the Doctor is at the heart of an evil Empire; no sonic, no Tardis, nobody to help. With his greatest temptation before him, can the Doctor resist? And will there be mercy?”

The episodes will see the return of series 8 villain Missy, the regenerated form of frequent foe The Master. Fans will also enjoy several throwbacks to previous episodes and series, including characters like the Sisterhood of the Karn and the Shadow Proclamation, and an elaboration on the Doctor and Master’s history

The ninth series will premiere on BBC and BBC America with “The Magician’s Apprentice” on September 19th, with “The Witch’s Familiar” airing the following Saturday, September 26th. Check out the first episode’s trailer below!
