So it’s official. We have Psych: The Movie 2 [número dos] coming out with a 2019 release. The full cast is back at it again with their shenanigans. James Roday as Shawn Spencer, Dulé Hill as Burton “Gus” Guster, Maggie Lawson as Juliet “Jules” O’Hara, Kirsten Nelson as Karen Vick, and Corbin Bernsen as Henry Spencer. Plus, we’re very happy to hear that Tim Omundson is returning as Carlton Jebediah Lassiter. We were very worried about our beloved Lassiter after hearing he was having some health issues back in 2017 when he suffered a stroke just a month before filming began for Psych: The Movie. Still, that didn’t stop Omundson from making a cameo in the first movie and we’re gleeful to see his full recovery back to health!
Reunited & It Feels So Good
On that note, this movie is going to be revolving more on Timothy’s character. They want to make up for lost time, and not having much of Lassie around in the first movie. Although there were many scenes that were specifically written for Omundson’s character in the first movie, it had to be written out because of the circumstances. Steve Franks let us know, though, no need to fret. Nevertheless, those scenes will be made useful in this second movie. We won’t miss out on all that beautiful Shawn and Lassie love. The whole cast will be reuniting back in good ol‘ Santa Barbara. Psych: The Movie 2 starts when Lassie is ambushed on the job and left for dead.
In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, Lassie begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn and Gus return to the Chiefs’ side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural.
Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.
With the news that Psych: The Movie 2 will be released later this year (2019), and the synopsis of the movie, leads us at The Daily Fandom to believe,
“We Psych-O’s got ourselves here a Halloween movie!”
It does seem an awful lot like an October release is on the horizon for us. However, we’re truly excited about where this is going to go, and after our last Psych movie, we have high hopes for this one. On top of that news, creator Steve Franks has big plans for Psych and its future. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was revealed that Steve Franks purposefully left the series finale of the show “open-ended,” with the intention of returning to make six follow-up movies. 1 down, 1 in the making, 4 more to go! This news makes us giggle like school girls.
Psych Will Go On!
Franks wants Psych to not just feel like episodes put together, he wants the passion that comes from a feature movie. He wants action and comedy and, of course, that crazy horseplay and chemistry between James Roday and Dule Hill.
Because as fun as it is to watch this show, it’s nothing compared to how fun it is to write this show and to make this movie.
Four more movies? We wholeheartedly believe he will get his chance to continue to show the world the play-styling antics of Shawn and Gus as they solve the murder mysteries that plague Santa Barbara and SF. Especially with its ratings from the last movies. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 100% with viewers giving it an 89%. Psych: The Movie was well accepted, and if it continues down this road, with its quick wit and unpredictable storylines, it should live on!
There’s Psych: The Movie 2 Cast Excitement
Even the cast are showing their excitement for starting production this past month. Dule Hill posted this little tease of an image to get us psych’ed for the upcoming movie. (Pun intended.)
Timothy Omundson posted his own version of Dule’s picture, showing off his exuberance.
It looks like they’re doing most of the filming in Vancouver, Canada. So we’re most likely going to see some beautiful scenery, and maybe some spooky wood-sy shots? *Cue the cut scene of Shawn and Gus running and screaming to our delights.*
Go ON! Get Your Psych On!
We will conclude this post with a video that showed us just how James and Dule prepare to get their Psych on! (And we will keep you updated as further information is made known to us here at The Daily Fandom.)
