The Emma Agenda is Quip Modest Productions’ latest web series. The adaptation rediscovers the classic novel by Jane Austen as an LGBT+ love story.

The Emma Agenda is a mixed-format modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. The web series is by the same team that created Twelfth Grade (or Whatever) and co-created The Uncanny Upshurs.

SYNOPSIS: The story follows Emma, a bored college student, as she decides to meddle in the lives of her friends, starting with trying to find her roommate Harriet the perfect boyfriend. Through mix-ups and mishaps, Emma learns more about herself and the people around her.

What makes this version unique is its LGBT spin: Emma’s original romantic partner from the book, George Knightley, has been changed to a female: Jordan Knightley. Aside from this one change, all the other aspects and core themes of the novel remain the same. Notably, this adaptation puts a focus on Emma’s well-meaning, yet clueless nature as she has trouble understanding what she believes is best for her friends. Emma grows from what Jane Austen described as “a heroine whom no one but myself would much like” into a more mature and understanding young woman.

Written and directed by Jules Pigott, the series is told through traditional filmmaking, as well as personal video blogs. As per the cast, joining Emma (Selis Maria) are Jordan (Angela Carbone) as mentioned above, Harriet (Jillian Hite), Emma’s impressionable roommate; and Jon (John Yazzo), Emma’s secretive ex-boyfriend.

The Emma Agenda made its debut in March 2017, and so far, about half of the 60 episodes can already be watched on the Quip Modest Production’s Youtube channel. Episodes go live on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Check out the trailer down below!
