Holy hamburgers in Archie Meets Batman ’66 #3! Something is happening at Pop’s Diner. All the adults are acting odd, Gotham’s Villains are on the loose and Riverdale just got two new students. Something is transpiring in this small town and everyone wants to know what’s going on.
Only two people can solve this problem Archie Andrews and Batman ’66. Archie and the gang have been paired up with many people over the years, but finally, the one and only Batman has found his way to good old Riverdale. This Batman isn’t the brooding hero everyone is familiar with today, this is the classic and wonderfully campy Adam West Batman from the 1966 television series.
This comic is a blast from the past with something for everyone. There is action, campiness and comedy all wrapped up into one groovy story. Get ready to put on a cape and go-go boots because this comic will take you way back to the 1960s.
Enigmas In Riverdale
This story begins with a battle between the Dynamic Duo versus Poison Ivy. As this apprehension is broadcasted on the radio Batman’s worst foes hear the news. Catwoman, Riddler, the Joker, and the Penguin are all together whining about how they keep losing to Batman.
The Penguin then announces that he has been working on a wonderful plan. Instead of committing more crimes in Gotham City they should all go to a defenseless city like Riverdale and everyone agrees. He then tells them all that his plan is already in motion. A fellow villain named Siren is already slowly controlling all the men in Riverdale.
At this moment all the teens in Riverdale are having a great morning going to school, except for Veronica. Before heading to school her father Hiram began to act strange, taking this behavior seriously everyone else thinks she is overreacting. After receiving no assistance from the police, Veronica goes to her last option she contacts Batman. After he agrees to help her, Batman tells Batgirl and Robin to go undercover at Riverdale High.
Also, all the kids are confused and depressed that Pop’s has kicked out all the teens from the diner to focus on new clientele. The next day new students Barbra Gordon and Dick grayson arrive and both Betty and Archie are head over heels for the new students. Little does anyone know all the villains are watching these events occur. From a distance the Joker exclaims that for the villainous plan to move forward they need to kidnap Jughead.
Archie Meets Batman ’66 #3 Summary
Since Pop’s Diner is closed for new clients, all the teens in Riverdale are glum about being kicked out of the local teen hot spot. Inside the diner Joker, Siren, Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin are enjoying the restaurant.
Everything is going well until the Joker admits he is not a fan of Penguins plan anymore because controlling the kids in town is the priority and penguin is doing nothing with that part of the plan. Penguin is ensuring everyone that the plan is going well and not to worry. Riddler then follows showing that he has a new accomplice Reggie Mantle that will be a perfect addition to the team.
During this moment Jughead is feeling the worst about the diner being closed. He decides to break into pops, and as he climbs in through a bathroom window he hears voices. He is shocked to find Gotham’s villains in the diner. As he is about to leave and warn everyone he is attacked by the Joker. At the same Archie and Betty decide to make a good impression on Dick and Barbra.
Archie decides to take them to a party at Veronica’s Mansion. Everyone is having a wonderful time, then Dick notices Hiram Lodge has a penguin umbrella. They then contact Batman to come to Riverdale as fast as he can. On the opposite side of town though, Jughead is awoken by Joker demanding solutions on how control teenagers. Making readers want to know what happens next.
Where Is Batman ’66?
During this summary, readers may be wondering where Batman has been while Dick and Barbra are undercover. During the fight with Poison Ivy, the villainous Bookworm and his accomplice Footnote steal a new invention. This invention was a book containing twenty books within.
As Batman would like to help everyone he decided for Batgirl and Robin to head to Riverdale while he tracks down this villainous duo. By this issue, he finally stops the team and is finally heading to Riverdale. As the book is titled Archie meets Batman ‘66 we have not seen them together. So hopefully now these two will finally meet in the next issue.
A Blast From The Past
Archie comics and Batman have been published for many years and it is very interesting that these characters have not crossed paths before. This comic finally answers the question of what if Batman came to Riverdale and the result is does it very well.
This series decided to focus on the joyful versions of these two properties. As we all would like to see what the modern version of both of these properties together, this is the best of both worlds. Everyone has grown up with one or both of these properties and this brings back what everyone loves about these characters.
Batman ‘66 had its own style and flare that shines well in this comic. With colorful villains, new locations, and a new crime to solve it is like reading a new episode of the series. Archie comics brings back the classic art style and comedy which made them so famous.
Pairing these together work perfectly because they accent each other so well. It’s done so fittingly that it does not seem odd for these characters to coexist in the same world. With this perfect pair, there are endless possibilities to where this story could go next.
This Is So Groovy
In the end, this series is shaping up to be something truly fantastic. It has something for fans of both series and also something new for readers that are unfamiliar. As comics go for gritty, dark, and dramatic there is barely any place for comics to be light-hearted and just tell a nice story. It’s a nice breath of fresh air when comics can go back to the bright and colorful period. As a fan of Silver age of comics, I love the nostalgic feeling this story gives off. I can’t wait to see what happens when Batman finally arrives.
Even though the comic is called Archie meets Batman ’66 the pair has not met. As we are heading to issue four I hope the fantastic moment happens where both Archie and the gang team up with the 1966 Bat-family.
As this series is only three issues in, it is the perfect jumping on point to be a part of this amazing crossover. I am waiting with delight for the next issue, which is coming out soon. I hope there are more stories to come with these two properties crossing over.
