The first weekend of January is starting off promising with Netflix. A fresh Netflix Original series titled The End of the F***ing World is going to be airing the first weekend of January.

On January 5th, 2018, to be exact. Despite it being called a Netflix Original – it is not formally a Netflix Original. The eight-part series premiered on Channel 4 and All 4 a UK television network in October of 2017

The End of the F***ing World: What We Know

However, the show does appear hopeful in a lot of ways. Assuming it did fantastic in the UK I can only imagine how it will do for U.S. audiences. There is a line of U.S. audiences who love UK chatter and slang. They enjoy the raunchiness of it. Buuuuut, there is also that other half that does not like it at all.

Many of the comments I have noticed on social media about the show are negatively pointing out the swear words. How it uses them so much, and that was only the trailer. They fail to realize in UK conversation that is usual chatter. From what we know based on the trailer that dropped on the internet just a few days ago is… not much.

Nonetheless, the series is based on the comic book of the sort of same name, and it is titled End of the Fucking World by Charles S. Forsman. What we know about the Netflix Series is the main character James wants to murder someone because he believes he is a psychopath. Don’t we all, James?

Once he meets Alyssa, he believes he has found who he wants to murder. What we know about Alyssa is minimal. She wants to run away with James and the first time we see her, she is telling James he sucks. These characters respectively are played by Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden.

This series follows suit with others such as – 13 Reasons Why and Bojack Horseman, which are Netflix Originals just the same. They focus on mental health and depression. That is where I see this series going, in a weird psychopath way.

Hopeful for This Netflix Series

The End of the F***ing World rebranded as a Netflix Original and then gets rid of the ‘fucking’ in the original title. That is a bold choice. For both Netflix and Channel 4/All 4 as well.

I think it would have made the show even better to have The End of the Fucking World instead. I acknowledge the whole… family friendly ordeal – I get it, Netflix. But, I would hope the show would not pop up on the kids Netflix anyhow. So, they could have gone with the swear word. Plus, the swear word works well with most UK shows anyway. They swear more than any American show I know.

This could, of course, either make or break them for the rest of the year. I, personally, did not like 13 Reasons Why so Netflix had a pretty bland year up until Marvel Originals started to air in 2017 and the recent season of Bojack Horseman. I can hope for the best from this show because most UK shows are glorious creations (check out Peep Show, Inbetweeners, Chewing Gum, Skinsetc.)

I’m hoping for the best of The End of the F***ing World. All eight episodes are airing tomorrow January 5th, 2018. But, if you really want to check it out – you can watch it at midnight PST time when Netflix airs series of shows. This isn’t a show that I will be staying late up to binge watch; however, throughout this weekend I will be watching it gradually to check out the hype. It may be a gem waiting to be watched.
