It’s been about a month since E3 came to an end, showing what is to come in the world of gaming. Of course with a lot of options comes a lot of questions: What should I buy? What if I don’t like what I get? Where do I start? All very valid questions so let’s break it down and take a look at some of the games that stand out and you can get your hands on in the coming months of 2018!
Classic Run & Jump
To start this list, it makes sense to start with the most recognizable genre in gaming from the very beginning. Run and jump your way through the levels in these upcoming platformer games.
Megaman X Legacy Collection
A well-known character in the world of gaming is Megaman, the cool blue robot that runs, jumps, and shoots his way through a number of enemies to finally get to his nemesis, Dr. Wily. The game plays in its classic 2D-style side-scrolling format. Become stronger with every unique boss destroyed by adding their special abilities to your arsenal. The legacy collection comes with all eight games in the Megaman X series, which means you get more content for less money.
Megaman X Legacy Collection will be available on 7/24/18 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC for the price of $39.99. On the topic of Megaman, a brand new adventure will be released later on in the year. Megaman 11, also available on all the same platforms and for the same price of $39.99.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
The small purple dragon is back in beautiful HD. If 2D sidescrollers are a bit too flat, then maybe a 3D platformer is for you. Spyro Reignited Trilogy has three different games included, each allowing players to burn enemies to a crisp while traversing each new area. We have written a bit more on Spyro Reignited Trilogy here if you find the concept of the game interesting.
Platformers can be fun but it may be a hit or miss for many. The thought of running around jumping on things might not appeal to every gamer. Maybe some prefer running, sliding, shooting, and 360 no-scoping through their games. If that is the case, then there are two triple-A titles quickly approaching to fulfill your gaming needs.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
First is the insanely popular FPS game, Call of Duty with yet another portrayal of a futuristic war zone. The Call of Duty: Black Ops series has been dedicated to the idea of a cybernetic soldier despite getting a bit of criticism for it by its third installment. This game is changing up its formula by saying away with the campaign and focusing on its multiplayer modes.
The game will feature its usual multiplayer modes like Team Deathmatch and Free-For-All and includes more than one map for Call of Duty Zombies. The game will also hop on the Battle Royale wagon and include the survival mode for players to enjoy. Last man standing out of one-hundred players wins.
If flashy kills are not for you, perhaps Battlefield 5 will be the better option. The game will take place in World War II, and has significant differences from its biggest competitor, Call of Duty.
Battlefield 5 will have both single-player and multiplayer modes and is said to have free content updates rather than purchasable content. Battlefield is also played as a class based game where players gain experience and level up as each, earning new tools to use in battle.
Battlefield 5arrives in 10/19/18 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC for $59.99.
There are plenty of options for playing alone for those who have been wanting to take some quality time with the games they purchase. The death of single player endeavors has been discussed a lot recently, and these games are coming to say they are here to stay.
We Happy Few
Like the uneasy feeling of having secrets all around you? Well, We Happy Few will have you feeling unsettled as you try to survive in this twisted world. In a city full of people with drug-induced happiness, play as someone who puts the pills down to find what is really going on in this town. Fake a smile as you walk down the street or else there will be trouble.
We Happy Few makes its merry way to stores on 8/10/18 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC for $59.99.
Perhaps horror isn’t your thing. Maybe you’d prefer to explore an expansive world fighting crime and swinging between buildings as the web-head himself. PlayStation users can experience a brand new Spider-Man adventure in this upcoming game. Using Spider sense, web-slinging, and all of his fighting prowess, keeping the peace should feel cool and fluid.
Take on the hero’s biggest enemies, but don’t forget about being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and taking to the streets of Queens. Want to know more about the game? We have covered Spider-Man in her in-depth article.
Spider-Man arrives on 9/7/18 only on PlayStation 4 for $59.99.
Red Dead Redemption 2
If you prefer something a little more gritty, then you may be leaning towards a story like Red Dead Redemption 2. This is another open world game that will have players excited just to start traversing the map to see what the world has to offer. For those who are unfamiliar with the Red Dead series, the story revolves around outlaws and cowboys in the ol’ wild west. Think Grand Theft Auto but a lot less flashy and replace every vehicle with a wagon or horse.
Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out in 10/26/18 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One (Maybe on PC at some point). The base game costs $59.99 but has regions locked unless paying an additional $20 for the special edition or $40 for the ultimate edition.
All for Teamwork!
It’s understandable to get tired of playing alone. Instead, maybe enjoy something with a friend. Co-op is such a key figure in gaming today and always calls for the spotlight. There are many options to choose from that will satisfy your needs to work together with people you trust and not just AI in a game.

For those not familiar with Overcooked…it can get intense. As far as co-op games go, Overcooked always called for the most from each player and was dependent on each person pulling their weight to survive a level. The game will be available to play both online and local couch co-op (a rare sight these days).
You form a team and do your very best to work together in cooking only the best meals during very chaotic and dangerous situations. Communication is key and it will definitely test your patience when playing with friends. Just don’t let it affect your friendships.
Overcooked! 2 arrives 8/7/18 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $29.99, and Nintendo Switch will have it available for $39.99.
Bethesda heard the cries and delivered! The opportunity to traverse a post-nuclear wasteland with their friends. Bethesda knows how to make an open world, but playing as the lone wanderer becomes a bit…well, lonely. Fallout 76 allows players to form up with their friends and step out into the post-apocalyptic.
It will be exciting but beware of dangerous creatures and hostile survivors. This is another open world game and is said to be the biggest map in a Fallout game, meaning there is plenty of ground to cover so don’t worry about taking the time to get lost and explore the world. Survive in the wasteland and rebuild new settlements!
Fallout 76 arrives 11/14/18 and can be played on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. There are several editions to the game but the base game will be $59.99 as usual.

Open world experiences are not the only options in the world of gaming. Overkill’s The Walking Dead is an example of just that. The interview being discussed in Brian Crecente’s article on The Polygon says that the game will be “Payday-esque,” most likely meaning that rather than an open world, a team of four players is put in a smaller open area where they will plan an attack, create traps, and execute an approach to take down hoards of zombies and hostile people.
Work together with three other people and make sure to all be on the same page when heading into action. Overkill’s The Walking Dead arrives 11/13/18 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. The game will cost $59.99 and a Deluxe edition is available for $79.99.
Gaming is all about fun and games and where there are games, there is competition. There is no question the competitive scene in gaming is growing, and Nintendo just so happens to have announced two titles that test the bonds of friendships.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Everybody knew it was coming. It comes for every Nintendo console since the Nintendo 64 but that does not make it any less exciting. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will allow players to fight against their friends as any of the many iconic faces in gaming today.
As far as competitive games go, Mario Party will always start out as casual fun. The moment your friend chooses to take your star over anybody else’s, it becomes more than casual fun. Mario Party is a game based on luck, risk, and skill. A player rolls a die and can land on a spot that can either be beneficial or can take a toll on the way the game will play out.
After each player rolls, a mini-game is played and the cycle continues until the game is over, the winner being the one with the most stars collected. Each character now has a unique die with different values on each face in addition to the typical 1-6 die used in the other Mario Party games.
Super Mario Party arrives 10/05/18 and, again, is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
