So…what is a battle royale? Good question. The latest gaming trend is a third-person shooter with a twist. The main point of a battle royale is to stay alive to be the last man standing, or in the case of duos and squads, the last team standing.
All battle royale’s have a circle that you need to stay in. The circle shrinks as the game goes on, forcing players to come out of hiding and fight each other. Now that you understand the game, the main question remains, which battle royale game is right for you?
Fortnite has taken the gaming world by surprise. Professional gamers and Twitch streamers were reluctant to play Fortnite because of the cartoon-like style. They assumed it was a child’s game. Boy were they wrong! Fortnite was…
“…reported having 3.4 million concurrent players. This is higher than the concurrent player record held by PUBG, which was 3.2 million,” –Metro.
Fortnite requires you to build ramps, walls, and forts to find real success at the game. The game provides you with a harvesting tool/pickaxe to destroy buildings, structures, and trees to get materials (wood, brick, and steel). These materials are used to gain leverage and height over your opponents and block gunfire.
Color determines the quality of weapons in Fortnite. The best weapon color is orange, but it is the rarest to find. Grey is the most frequently found on the map. Upgraded weapons increase the damage of the weapon.
PUBG is a full priced game. It was the most popular battle royale until Fortnite stepped into the spotlight. This game is known for its realistic take on a battle royale.
PUBG’s map is bigger than all of the other battle royale games. Vehicles are placed on the map to help players get places faster. With no “building” option, players use natural terrain to conceal themselves from gunfire. The pace of the game is slower because of the map size.
This game gears toward people who like to spend time looting and strategizing rather than engaging early game. You can play solo, duo or with a squad of four. Playing duo and squads change your gaming perspective to first person instead of third person.
H1Z1 has been through a lot since the game released. The game started out as two different games H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill. They eventually made Just Survive its own zombie apocalypse game. King of the Kill name changed officially to just H1Z1.
H1Z1 starts with 150 people instead of the standard 100. You can still play solo, duo or squads, but the squads are of five. This is particularly nice if you have five friends who want to play because the other two only have squads of four.
Once you start the match, you are parachuted to a random location. Vehicles are provided as a way to travel around the expansive map. The game gives you materials that you craft to make and upgrade items. You can also deconstruct items for health and armor.
Realm Royale is the newest of the battle royale games, released early this month. Ninja, a famous Fortnite streamer on Twitch, tweeted that he loved the game. This gave the game recognition. Realm Royale has the feel of a medieval RPG game, but with guns. There are also abilities. Each class has a set of different abilities.
The classes include Engineer, Mage, Assassin, Hunter, and Warrior. Some of the abilities you can get include going invisible for a couple seconds, throwing smoke bombs, flying, throwing a net to slow your opponent, and more! These abilities depend on which class you are in, so definitely look to see which class has which abilities.
Realm Royale also introduces forging. You loot materials and forge them to get better items. The vehicles in this game come in the form of mounts. You can call your mount to come out at any time if you need that extra movement speed.
Which Battle Royale Game Is Right For You?
No matter what battle royale game you choose, even if it’s all four, remember to have fun. The most important thing is to find a battle royale where all parts are fun, not just winning the game. Chances are, you aren’t going to win every one. Once you find the one you love, work at getting better in all aspects of the game.
