1. Best Anime 2018: Dragon Ball Super
Superis the latest addition to one of the most popular series, Dragon Ball. Millions of fans across the globe absolutely love this anime. Dragon Ball Super takes our super-powerful heroes (Saiyans) and their friends to an intergalactic void, where they find themselves in a tournament against powerful foes from different universes.
Goku gets involved in a showdown with the mightiest adversaries and taps into a new transformation. Although the show started before 2018 , it ended in 2018. Dragon Ball Super delivers a great storyline, jaw-dropping fighting sequences, and incredible transformations.
2. Boku No Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
If you want to see the transformation of seemingly frail individuals into formidable heroes, Hero Academia is the anime for you. The anime is about Izuku Midoriya’s journey from studying in Hero Academia into becoming a hero. He recounts his life in the Hero Academia, how he got his quirk (power/ability) and transformed into the hero just like Almight.
Season 4 of the series is scheduled to hit screens in October 2019. You have plenty of time to catch up on the series. The characters’ development and the plethora of quirks they have are enough to keep you hooked throughout the series.
3. Devilman Crybaby
Licensed by Netflix and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi (story composer of Code Geass), Devilman Crybaby follows the story of Akira who made a pact with a powerful demon and transformed into Devilman. Akira’s friend, Ryo, forces him to unite with a demon and use their newfound power to rid the world of evil. The anime boasts some captivating graphics and battles. The show offers stunning animation, significant character development and a plot twist of biblical proportions.
Overlord is a must-watch anime for all MMORPG lovers because it ticks all the right boxes. MMORPG fans aside, you will find this anime thrilling and heart-throbbing if you love to watch “OP” characters. Anyway, in Overlord, a VR gamer is suddenly transported into another world while playing a soon to be shut downed game. The protagonist is the only player in the world where every Non-Playable Character (NPC) has developed a mind of their own.
He is a high-level lich, named Momonga, and is also the leader of the guild (Ainz Ooal Gown) and its powerful subordinates who reside there. Ainz then attempts to extend his dominion to explore the new world, also in the hope of finding his old guild members. A fitting anime for fans of “Overpowered” characters. MMO fans can easily relate to the anime and the nostalgia of their RPG days.
5. Tokyo Ghoul: Re
Ghouls, gore, supernatural, romance, and action; all these aspects made Tokyo Ghoul a delightful zombie anime. Ken Kaneki’s, the protagonist of the story, life turns upside down when he meets the beautiful and likeminded Rize Kamishiro, who is a ghoul. The fateful encounter between the two leaves Rize dead and her powers passed on to Kaneki. Now, Kaneki is torn between retaining his humanity and suppressing his urge to eat human flesh.
Tokyo Ghoul: re is the last season of the anime where Kaneki must come to a resolve and save both the humans and ghouls and to create a world where both species can live in harmony. Each character of the anime has depth. The protagonist and some other characters have great transformations to boast about. The anime teaches us about hope, endurance, and sanity.
6. The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments
The Seven Deadly Sins are seven legendary members of a group who once protected the region of Britannia from every evil. However, due to an unfortunate event, the group disbanded and scattered to different areas of the world. Each member of the group bears tremendous power and skills, with the strongest being Meliodas and Escanor.
The latest season of the series takes us to the revival of a notoriously powerful demon band, who have a score to settle with Meliodas. Besides this, the story also reveals many secrets about Meliodas’ past, why he hasn’t changed over the years, etc. This season, we see Meliodas tapping into some part of his slumbering power and wiping the floor with legendary demons. Each character of the story has a past and a story. It has some good comical lines. It offers fast-paced action. The relationship between every character is very touching.
7. Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken
Don’t mind the unusually long title. Believe me when I say that Slime Datta Ken is an anime that is worth every second. Although the show started in 2018, it is going strong in 2019, which makes it a fitting addition to the list.
So, the Isekai anime is about a middle-aged man who dies after being stabbed. He is reborn as a slime in a world of magic and different species (usually seen in MMOs) during his death, whatever Rimuru (the protagonist) says gets turned into an ability, making him OP. The anime is comical on many occasions. The OP MC transforms gradually throughout the series. The character development is steady and not fast-paced.
8. Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
Desu Māchi Kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyōsōkyoku is just like Overlord but without the dark, brutal and gore theme. OP MC is transported to another universe that is similar to a fantasy RPG world. During his initial encounter with the world, the protagonist encounters an army of Lizardmen.
He wipes the entire military out with a combo of special skills, and as a result, he jumps to the highest level of the character. With no way to return to his home world, he adapts to the new world, while hiding his overpowered statistics. Isekai fans would love to watch this anime. The light-hearted storyline and theme make for a refreshing change.
9. Violet Evergarden
A coming-of-age anime filled with romance, action, and self-discovery. The series revolves around Auto Memory Dolls. The series’ main character, Violet Evergarden, helps people that can’t write or express themselves through words. She initially worked as ‘the weapon’ in wars, and once the battles were over, she switched to being a ghostwriter. The anime offers a compelling animation, artistic and European-styled world, expressive music and a fairly sentimental story.
10. Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san (Skilled Teaser Takagi)
If you want to take your mind off a fast-paced action anime, you might want to turn to Skilled Teaser Takagi. It is a romance, comedy and slice-of-life anime and, thus, with a light-hearted and funny storyline and characters. The story revolves around two friends, Nishikata and Takagi, where the former is the victim of continuous teasing.
Takagi is a skilled teaser and knows what reaction she can expect from Nishikata when he is teased. The anime is a comic in nature and contains many moments to make you burst with laughter.
