2017 is almost here, which means the Winter Anime Season will begin soon. It’s the era of sequels and remakes, and looking at some of the upcoming releases, anime is no exception. Here are the most awaited series for Winter Anime 2017!
Certainly the most interesting Police anime of the season. As usual, the fact that it’s made for Studio Madhouse is already enough reasons to at least give it the 3-episode rule. Based on a manga, ACCA promises to be an exciting mystery series about several kingdoms and their police departments.
Based on a highly acclaimed light novel with gorgeous illustrations, the trailer for Youko Senki is one of the most interesting ones out of everything from this season. We already had a military-magic anime last season, but this one is guaranteed to be at least “decent”, as there’s a lot of readers speaking wonders of it!
OK. The premise for this one seems a bit stupid, but if we’ve learned something as viewers is to never judge an anime by its
cover premise. Twitter fun, a music tag, and interesting character designs? It might be worth a try! (Although not necessary, it is recommended to read Suzuka first!)
Little Witch Academia is an original anime series by Studio Trigger, and it will apparently be a 2-cour split series. It’s also the closest thing to Harry Potter you will ever see in anime. Two movies were previously released, and while you can follow the series without having watched them, we recommend you check them out to get used to the characters and their world. The movies are also really good, short, and they’re on Netflix!
THE ANIMATION, oh god oh god oh god. The premise behind Hand Shakers is a bit iffy, so we have yet to see whether this anime will have anything interesting to offer. However, it might be worth watching if only for the visuals. If Hand Shakers manages to maintain the level of animation seen in the PV, it might as well be a candidate to win an animation award in 2017!
Probably the most shocking one out of all the sequels announced. The first season of Blue Exorcist was released back in 2011 (!) and had an original ending. The series also got an original (yet gorgeous) movie, so no one really was expecting a sequel at this point. However, the manga is still on-going, and it’s selling decently, so A-1 Pictures has decided to deliver another season. This one will be covering the Kyoto Arc, which has been pretty hyped by manga readers!
Exactly one year after Konosuba came out of nowhere to become an instant hit, Studio Deen is bringing viewers its deserved sequel. Competing with Re:Zero for best isekai anime of 2016, Konosuba made its way into the viewers’ hearts with its lighthearted comedy and likable cast. We expect many more EXPLOOOOOOOSIONs from this one!
The time has come to say goodbye to Gintoki, Shinpachi, Kagura, and the rest of the gang… maybe? The manga is on its final arc, so it’s possible that this sequel to the 2015 series will also be the last Gintama anime season. Nothing has been officially confirmed, though. Either way, more comedy and epicness from the amazing series by Hideaki Sorachi!
Others sequels coming out in Winter 2017: Nanbaka (Season 2), Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen (Season 2), Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation (Season 3), Rewrite: Moon and Terra (Season 2), Super Lovers (Season 2), Tales of Zestiria the X (Season 2), Chaos;Child (sequel to Chaos;Head).
