Well, at least we know the TARDIS will be back!
Following the season 3 finale of Orphan Black on Saturday, June 20th, BBC America released a short promotional teaser for the ninth series of sci-fi juggernaut Doctor Who, set to air this fall. The 10-second video shows no new footage, but features the show’s time-travelling phone box in various close-up shots.
But we may not have to wait long for an in-depth look at the Doctor’s newest adventures: Doctor Who will be a major presence at the San Diego Comic Con, being held July 9-12, and will hold a panel featuring the main cast along with showrunner Steven Moffat and producer Brian Minchin. When the show was last present at SDCC in 2013 for the show’s 50th anniversary, attendees saw the trailer for the anniversary’s tri-Doctor special “The Day of the Doctor,” so the convention will likely bring with it some series 9 previews and dish.
The teaser is just one exciting tidbit in a slew of news about the upcoming series, including its many guest stars (Maisie Williams, Rebecca Front, and David Schofield are just a few) and returning characters (Osgood, Rigsy, and Kate Stewart). Though not much has yet been officially confirmed for the series’ episodic plots, we do know the series, composed primarily of two-part stories, will deal with the mystery surrounding Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi’s multiple appearances on the show and will see the reemergence of popular enemy The Master (or “Missy”), played by Michelle Gomez, in the premiere.
