Sitges Film Festival has announced today part of the line-up for its 49th edition. This year’s eidtion will be mainly focused on the celebration of Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary.
Established in 1968, the Sitges Film Festival is a Spanish film festival and one of the most acclaimed film festivals held in Europe. It’s recognized for being the world’s foremost international festival specializing in fantasy and horror films.
To celebrate Star Trek‘s 50 year mark, the festival will count with the presence of Walter Koenig. Koenig is known for his role as Starfleet officer Pavel Chekov in the second and third season of The Original Series, as well as the films featuring the original cast. During the festival, Koenig will receive a “Premi Màquina del Temps” (“Time Machine Award”).
Among other Trekkie activities, the Festival will show the For the Love of Spock documentary directed by Adam Nimoy. Trekkies will also be able to partake in a Star Trek Walk around the city on October 12th. Furthermore, attendees will have the opportunity to visit two Star Trek expositions. The first one will be located in the Edifici Miramar and will include items from private collections such as figures, comic books, mock-ups, props, signed photographs, books and merchandise. The second exposition will be a compilation of several illustrations created by different Spanish artists and will be located in the Palau de Maricel.
Counting with the collaboration of the Asociación Club Star Trek, the festival will be taking place in Sitges between the 7th and 16th of October 2016. Ticket selling will begin on July 21st on the festival’s official website.
