The HBO has just renewed the drama-mystery series The Leftovers for a third and final season.
After airing the season 2 finale on December 6th, fans will be happy to know that they can still enjoy one more season of The Leftovers. President of HBO programming Michael Lombardo has stated that “this show has proven to be one of the most distinctive HBO series” and that they are “extremely proud of its unrivaled originality, which has resulted in such a passionate following by our HBO viewers”. Lombardo also declared their admiration and support of Damon’s artistic vision and that they respect his decision to bring the show to a conclusion next season”.
Damon Lindelof, creator of the series, wanted to show his gratitude towards “the level of creative support and trust” that he received from HBO during the two seasons of The Leftovers. “Tom, myself and our incredible team of writers and producers put tremendous care into designing those seasons as novels unto themselves…with beginnings, middles and ends”. As a matter of fact, the crew also took the chance to thank the network for giving them the opportunity to conclude the show on their own terms, an opportunity that “rarely comes along”.
Little is known about this third final season, but Lindelof suggested that the ending is going to be “‘wildly ambiguous but hopefully mega-emotional“.
