A Brief History of Mr. Robot: The When, Where and How

Mr. Robot is an American drama–thriller series created by Sam Esmail. The pilot was released ahead of time on May 27, 2015 and was so well received that the series got renewed for a second season before its official airing on USA Network on June 24, 2015. After premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2015, the series also won the Audience Award for episodic television

Esmail said some of his major influences for the show were American Psycho, Taxi Driver, A Clockwork Orange and Fight Club. Mr. Robot has received outstanding critical acclaim, often being referred as the best show to come out in 2015. On RottenTomatoes, it currently has a rating of 98%.

The first season consists of 10 episodes. Season 2 will come out in July 2015.

Why It’s Awesome

giphy

This has been considered to be the best show to come out this year so you can already assume there are MANY reasons why this show is awesome and why you should binge-watch it ASAP.

For starters, every single topic that is treated is on point. From computing and hacking to economics and psychology. If you’re someone who struggles with social anxiety, depression or people and society in general, you will identify with Elliot Alderson like with no other character. Rami Malek is incredible in his role and we will be very disappointed if he doesn’t get an Emmy nomination for his performance.

From the very first episode, the show promises to take us to a very exciting journey: starting a revolution by causing one of the greatest companies in the world to collapse by eliminating debt and redistributing wealth. And all of that through hacking. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it? The premise comes with an ensemble cast of very interesting and unique characters. All of them are relevant and have an important role to play in this revolution. And let’s not forget that the show includes a POC main character, strong females, bisexuals characters and a transexual woman leading a very important organisation. All of that framed by one of the most interesting cinematography I have seen on television.

If that wasn’t enough, Mr. Robot is especially unique because we are part of the story. We are Elliot’s imaginary friend that he has created in his mind. This trick allows us to know what Elliot is thinking at all times. He also often refers to us to ask for our opinion or even to ask on whose side we are on. The downfall is that Elliot’s filter is slightly blurred and we cannot rely 100% on what we are seeing. This allows for many big revelations and plot twists that will have you dropping your jaw.

Our advice? Stay away from spoilers and start watching the show today. You won’t regret it.
