Last August we announced that a new One Piece movie was in the works. After much speculation from fans, new details are finally coming out.
The first 2016 issue of Shueisha‘s Weely Shonen Jump will be announcing on Monday that the 13th One Piece film is going to be titled ‘One Piece Film: Gold‘ and is set to premiere in Japan theaters on July 23rd, 2016.
As per the question that many people wanted to know the answer to, it is confirmed: Eiichiro Oda, the manga creator, will be the film’s executive producer as well as being credited with the original work, as he did with the past One Piece Film Z. More staff has been revealed: Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece episodes 352-679, assistant director for One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island) is going to be directing the film, while Tsutomu Kuroiwa (live-action Black Butler film, live-action The Perfect Insider TV series) is writing the script.
The first pre-sale tickets will go on sale on December 18th. The Weekly Shonen Jump‘s second 2016 issue that shipped on December 14th revealed a new character design for an unknown character described as “mysterious man”. The magazine’s next issue will reveal more details on this character.
The issue also revealed that a One Piece “special video” will screen before the Star Wars: The Force Awakens film when it opens in Japan on December 18th.
