Dark Matter: A fresh new look on the sci-fi genre.

In a Nutshell

The six-person crew of a derelict spaceship awakens from stasis in the farthest reaches of space. Their memories wiped clean, they have no recollection of who they are or how they got on board. The only clue to their identities is a cargo bay full of weaponry and a destination: a remote mining colony that is about to become a war zone. With no idea whose side they are on, they face a deadly decision. Will these amnesiacs turn their backs on history, or will their pasts catch up with them?

Meet the Characters

one - dark matter - the daily fandomOne was the first one to emerge from stasis, and was designated “One” for this reason. He is both charming and goofy. He is the moral center of the crew, showing both integrity and the will to fight for what is right even if it seems to be a lost cause. He may make mistakes, but he always means well.

two - dark matter - the daily fandomTwo is the leader of the Raza and she is fiercely protective of her crew. With the added physical and mental boost from the bioengineered nanites teeming through her system, she is a formidable opponent. She shows both strength and compassion, and she is also determined and headstrong and won’t let anyone or anything stand in her way.

three - dark matter - the daily fandomThree‘s bottom line is his own well-being. He’s immoral, cocky, and exhibits a strong sense of self-preservation. Because of this, he has to learn to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his crew. Three is also experienced with a wide range of firearms.

Six is extremely intelligent and has the ability to handle issues and disappointment with strength and grace. Six demonstrates a singular aptitude for piloting the Phantom class shuttle ‘Marauder’.

the android - dark matter - the daily fandomOnly referred to as “The Android”, the character’s child-like eagerness to fit in has helped her become an integral, albeit unique, part of the crew. As she engages with the crew, she both grows and learns to understand human actions and emotions.

Why It’s Awesome

dark matter - the daily fandom

Dark Matter is definitely a fresh new look on the sci-fi genre. It tackles the universe in the perspective where corporations run everything, even though there is a galactic government.

The crew of the Raza aren’t exactly heroes, but they aren’t truly villains either. Throughout the first season, the crew’s past is revealed for each of them. It shows a different version than what they had begun to think of themselves, making them more anti-heroes than anything else.

About Author

Possibly the oldest fan on the Fandom team, JD's love of all things geeky began with books such as the Hardy Boys and The Black Cauldron series. Evolving into others such as Robotech, Dragonlance, and most recently the Sword of Truth book series (not that horific wannabe tv series). With video games, his love began with a Commodore 64 and an Atari gaming console. Graduating to an NES and moving up from there, he found a love for both PC and Console gaming. One cannot forget the basics of most fandoms and sci fi. Having begun his trek into this world with the original Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th century, the 6 million dollar man, 6 million dollar woman...and lets just say the list could go on for a LONG time. Needless to say, he was there at the forefront of a lot of great fandoms when they began.
