Literary web series Classic Alice has announced the premiere of the spinoff Musica Mundana.
According to Kate Hackett Productions, Musica Mundana explores new subject areas, both in academics and in life, as it also follows the adventures of Alice’s roommate Cara Graves (Elise Cantu). Graves is a dual music/math major and a popular Classic Alice character, as she moves from New England to Los Angeles for a summer internship.
The spinoff also presents Dyana Liu (Suburgatory) as Cara’s girlfriend Lily and Lauren Mayhew (Dexter) as Cara’s summer roommate Sam. In fact, Musica Mundana will also feature an all-female writing and directing team: the directorial debut of Kate Hackett (creator and star of of Classic Alice) and the writing by Alexandra Edwards (Emmy award-winning writer and transmedia producer of web series including The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Welcome to Sanditon, and Emma Approved). Edwards explains:
“It was very important to me to give Cara and Lily—the show’s prominent lesbian couple—a story that represented queer relationships fairly and warmly. So often, LGBT characters are only shown within the confines of stories about their sexuality. I wanted to give viewers something different: a story about early adulthood that isn’t about coming out or getting together. College-aged kids don’t just fall in love and have first kisses. They also have 90th kisses. They also work and play and try to figure out their lives. They go places and see how other people live, and they succeed at life stuff and they don’t succeed at life stuff and they keep on having to relate to other people through all of that. So that, to me, is what this spinoff is about. I loved writing it, and I hope that everyone will love watching it.”
New episodes of Musica Mundana appear on Classic Alice’s YouTube channel on Wednesdays at 9am PDT. You can watch the first episode of Musica Mundana HERE. Also, make sure you join Classic Alice on Twitter for a special AMA with star Elise Cantu on Thursday, July 23rd, at 6:30pm PDT!
