American Horror Story: Probably the scariest, most disturbing TV series currently on air. Dare to watch this?
In A Nutshell
Each season of American Horror Story is a different story with different setting and characters. The series has released five season so far: Murder House (2011), Asylum (2012), Coven (2013), Freak Show (2014) and Hotel (2015).
Meet the Characters
Even though many of the cast members return for every season, each season tells a different story with different characters. Some of the recurring characters include Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga and Angela Bassett.
A Brief History of American Horror Story: The When, Where and How
The series has been very well received by critics. Jessica Lange won two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performances.
Why It’s Awesome
Since every season is a complete different story with different characters, it is hard to given an exact definition of the plot and why you would or would not like it. To be honest, it really depends on the season. I, for once, enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 quite a lot, but I wasn’t as fond as the rest. And I have met other people who got their favourite seasons, but then also dropped others. In a way, it’s similar to what Black Mirror does with its episodes.
There are many things that all these seasons have in common, though: they’re super scary. Not just the jump scare type of scary, but it’s also full of f*cked up situations and very creepy and disturbing scenes. Some of the characters also have very dramatic, angsty stories, so you better prepare to grab some tissues if you end up getting attached to them.
This series, however, has been quite controversial several times, which is why we feel we should give you some trigger warnings for: sexual abuse, racism, homophobia, mutilated bodies, self-harm, suicide… and the list goes on. Basically, if you’re very sensitive about any of these topics or horror/gore stuff in general, you should definitely NOT watch this. But if you love the horror genre and don’t mind blood and gore, then you will find yourself devouring this show. Performances and writing are pretty amazing so there’s a high chance that you will end up loving at least one of the seasons.
